Our lifeboats

A quick pic of our ship at Victoria.  Big, isn't she?  That's Jason and Liz in the lower left, and those are our lifeboats hanging from the side.  I like that they appear to be enclosed.  Even if the ship sinks in the rainy, icy North Pacific, you'll still be dry and relatively comfortable.

FYI, there is a mandatory "Emergency Practice" program the first afternoon of the cruise.  Newbies (us) arrive 10 minutes early; veteran cruisers straggle in 5-15 minutes late.

You can tell the Newbies cuz we all had front-row seats.  And lots of time to wait for the stragglers.  You can tell the Veterans, cuz they had to sit in the back.  And were the first ones out once the session was over.

There wasn't much Emergency to practice.  They told us to find the nearest Passenger Assembly point to our cabin, and that we were to go there in an emergency.  Yeah, like we would be so orderly if the ship was sinking.

After that, we were shown how to put our life-jacket on (it was also mandatory to bring them with us to the session).  Then we had to actually put ours on, which is not good for a mechanically-challenged person like me.  Once done, you showed your handiwork to one of the crew, and you were dismissed.  It took Liz 30 seconds to put hers on.  I finished in just under 5 minutes.  With help from her.
